The MIGHTY HUNTER...and his wife!

This year Cory invited me to go hunting with him and I thought....'Why the heck not. Haven't done that before.' So Mitchel went over to the White's house for a very fun and exciting weekend and Cor and I went hunting. Now, I don't have my hunting licence. I always thought that I could never kill an animal..... but after hiking all over God's beautiful country, straight up hills, straight down hills, posting here, waiting, posting there, waiting.... I tell you after I spent the day trying to find one of those animals, sweaty and my feet killing me and my heart pounding every time we saw a deer (but not one we were allowed to shoot) I could TOTALLY kill one. Still couldn't kill the mommies as I tell Cory, but those men "bucks" I could put one down in a minute! So we get up nice and early, gear up and head out. We choose some dirt road we fall upon and Cory chooses a place, parks the truck and says to me, "Do you see the top of that ridge? That is where we are headed!" Me, "laugh, All right." You see I promised myself I wouldn't hold him back, or put a damper on his hunting weekend, aka no COMPLAINING. Just following. But what I was really thinking was "OH CRAP. Does he really think my husky butt can do that? This is going to be a LONG day. Ummm pedicure!" Yes, those were my thoughts! The picture above is from us standing at the bottom by the truck. We took a LOT of these breaks up this ridge.... I really like this picture though.. Just kind of captured Cory! He was so crazily happy. Now this is us at the top looking down at the truck... Now can you find the truck. It's WHITE and it's a TEENY, TINY, ITSY dot with a red square around it.On the day we headed out (Friday) we saw 4 bucks Cory could shot, but the season didn't open until Saturday. So no shooting. But then on Saturday when we went out we saw probably 25 deer and not one we could shoot. Seriously how do they do that? But we did do some great hunting. Later after the ridge, some lunch and a nap we headed out on some FLAT ground. I was leading and we were just following this trail when I turned a corner and heard a rattle. Me growing up without Rattlesnakes didn't know what was going on. Cory grabbed me and shoved me back. Ran for a stick, like a 14 year old boy full of great excitement, and grabbed his knife and took on HUNT mode. Meanwhile he kept telling me. "This is awesome!! I always wanted the skin of one of these." Me, "Gee, Hun. Glad I could bate one in for you!" And he got his wish. He killed it, has the skin in our shed with salk spread all over preparing it to put on a board for show and tell. No, it's not going in our house. It will in his OFFICE when he becomes a Manager... I see it as more incentive to become a Manager!! But I must claim this one. When we were still out and he was taking the skin off the snake I made him keep the meat because I wanted to cook it and eat it. Always wondered what it tasted like. I did cook it, we did eat it and yes it does taste like chicken!

So he killed that one and then proceeds to tell me "Man, I wish I could of kept the head on. I've always wanted one so I could have it stuffed in the striking position!" Literally not 50 feet further down trail I hear the rattle again and there you go another snake spread out on the trail 10 feet from me. Now I'm a fast learner. I stopped and let the teenage boy take over. Remember I said I was a 'fast' learner, not a smart one! This time he smashed it over the head, stunned it us not knowing this and it came alive again. CREEPY. Smashed it again, harder this time and well now he's got one to stuff. So 'til we make it to Idaho it is wrapped in a wet paper towel and so nicely placed in our freezer. Oh goodness I love this man!
